Etymology
The word Plumbago comes from the Latin plumbum 'lead' and was long used for 'black lead', the old name for a dark mineral. A helpful way to remember it is that people later used the same name for a plant called leadwort because some parts looked dark and 'lead-like', so today Plumbago means the group of plants known as leadwort.
