Etymology
Paracheirodon is a scientific name built from para- meaning 'near' and cheiro- + -don, the parts of Cheirodon that mean 'hand' and 'tooth'. So Paracheirodon says this fish is 'near' or similar to the fish called Cheirodon, which is why scientists used the name for the neon tetra and its relatives.
