Etymology
Orwell was the pen name chosen by Eric Arthur Blair; he took the name from the River Orwell in Suffolk and wanted a plain, English-sounding name. Because he used this name for books about society, power, and control, Orwell now stands for those ideas and we use the word 'Orwellian' to mean a society or situation with too much control.
