Etymology

Lycia takes its name from the people who lived there long ago and probably from an old Anatolian word Lukka, while the Greeks linked it to lykos meaning 'wolf'. A helpful way to remember Lycia is to think of it as the 'land of the wolves' on the southwest coast of what is now Turkey.
