Etymology

HTTP stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol, where hyper means 'over' or 'beyond', text means the words and pictures on a page, transfer means 'to move', and protocol means 'a set of rules'. So HTTP is simply the rules that let web pages and information be moved between computers on the web.
