Etymology
Guangdong comes from two Chinese parts: Guang meaning 'broad' or 'wide' and dong meaning 'east'. So Guangdong is the 'eastern' part of the larger Guang region, which is why the province sits on China's south coast and has Guangzhou as its capital.
