Etymology

The word Garcinia comes from the name of a French botanist, Garcin, plus the Latin ending -ia that shows a 'group of plants'. So Garcinia is the plant group named after Garcin, which is why we use it for this genus of tropical trees and their fruits like the mangosteen.
