Etymology

Ethiopic also names the Ge'ez script used to write several languages of Ethiopia and Eritrea, and the word comes from Ethiopia, from Greek parts aitho- 'to burn' and -ops 'face'. So the Ethiopic script is simply the writing system 'from Ethiopia'.
