The TV title is an initialism of 'crime scene investigation'; its referent (a show title) depends on cultural knowledge rather than morphological derivation.
Etymology
CSI is also the title of a TV series and comes from the same phrase Crime Scene Investigation, because the show follows teams who 'solve crimes', so when people say CSI they may mean the program as well as the real investigators.
