Etymology
Bahamian comes from the island name Bahamas, a name that probably comes from Spanish baja mar, which means 'shallow sea' and gives a picture of the islands' low, clear waters. The ending -ian means 'from' or 'belonging to', just like in Canadian, so Bahamian describes something connected to the Bahamas, its people, or their culture.
