Etymology

The word Aruba probably comes from the language of the island's first people, the Arawak. One idea is the phrase Ora Oubao, meaning 'shell island', which fits its many sandy beaches. Another folk story points to Spanish oro hubo 'there was gold' as an easy memory trick, but either way Aruba is the name of this sunny Caribbean island.
