Etymology
Arthropteris comes from Greek parts arthro- meaning 'joint' and pteris meaning 'fern', so it literally means 'jointed fern'. The arthro- part is the same as in arthritis, which helps you remember the 'joint' idea, and this name fits ferns with joint-like leaf parts that often grow on rocks or trees.
