Etymology
The word Arctonyx comes from two Greek parts: arct- meaning 'bear', as in Arctic, and -onyx meaning 'claw', the same root as the stone name onyx. So the name 'bear-claw' fits the hog badger, an Asian badger known for its strong digging claws.
